We are currently translating and producing new materials for Christian leadership training in several languages of Ethiopia. The first language is of course Amharic, the national language of Ethiopia. But these same materials that will be used for distance learning across Ethiopia must also be translated into other of the 85 different languages in use today. The second language we will prepare materials in will be Afan Oromo and then Sidaminya. Many Ethiopians grow up in their local villages and town speaking only their mother tongue and even the national language is their second language and not used widely in their local areas. For this reason translation of appropriate learning tools to prepare church leaders, pastors and evangelists to work among their own people is critical to reaching the 80% of Ethiopian who live in rural areas.
